This weekend, I worked in my garden. If you've been around Waiting On Wonders for any length of time, you are aware that the Lord tends to speak to me most clearly when I'm in creation, specifically, in my garden.
This weekend was no different.
As I pulled weeds and picked tomatoes ripe on the vine and moved plants in their pots to optimal-sun locations, I heard the Lord gently speak to me about areas of my life, things I'd let go fallow in my heart, and relationships that needed tending. My garden is a work in progress...so am I.
Whether a side-yard garden or a majestic mountainscape, all of creation is shouting His attributes, declaring His truth, and beckoning us to point our attention to Him.

Some of the main takeaways from today's garden session were:
✨ Don't wait to pull weeds. I don't know anyone that enjoys it, but if you wait to pull weeds things are always harder and more overgrown than if you are tending to the garden daily. So it is in life. It's not a fun process, but don't wait to tend to things in your own heart and life until you've got an overgrown mess of tangled-up situations. Take time with the Lord daily and allow Him to tend to your heart and life. Don't be afraid to deal with the daily. The longer we let things go, the harder they are to undo.
✨ Rain makes the soil easier to work with. If it hasn't rained for several days, the ground is hard and the needed nutrients and growth is harder to come by. If the soil is tender with rain, it's easier to work and mix in and dig up. So it is in life. If I'm not soaked by the rain of God's presence regularly, my heart and life go dry. In soaky-seasons, the soil of our hearts can be much more receptive to growth - if we allow it to be. Don't be afraid of a good hard deluge in your life. It always produces the best growth in us on the other side.
✨ Sometimes we need helpers. As I worked, I noticed that tucked inside my tomato plant was a harmless little garden snake wrapped around the vines. I also was visited by several very busy pollen-laden bumblebees. There were geckos and skinks and lizards and caterpillars and wasps and ants and even my cat came to help. All had a job to do in the garden. So it is in life. Sometimes we need a variety of people in our lives to help us with a variety of things. Letting people help is a good thing. Don't be afraid to let people see you in the dirt and let them come alongside you and help you harvest what God is doing in your life.
Just a few garden thoughts. I'm once again reminded, He's always speaking in everyday normal things. I'm trying to learn to listen no matter the venue.

How We Wait Today
This week, find that place. Find the place where you can sense the Lord speaking to you and let Him! It probably won't be an audible voice, more than likely it will sound a lot like your own, but listen as He impresses on your hearts things about Himself, His nature and character, and how His love for you can change your life. He is only one paused moment away - He is near - let's be found listening today.
